Photojournalism is the process of storytelling using the medium of photography as the main story telling device. While a journalist will use a pen and paper to tell stories, a photojournalist will use their camera to capture the visual representation of a story. When submitting images for Photojournalism nights, members are asked to give a brief description of their unique and powerful form of visual storytelling for their image. Members can submit up to 5 (five) images for the night.

Photojournalism images should limit editing to cropping, color balancing, conversion to B&W and subtle dodging and burning. Adding or removing elements with any photo editing software is not permitted.

Though not judges at the time, all photojournalism images uploaded for presentation become eligible for submission to the End of the Year competition, where they are judged against each other and one is chosen as Photojournalism Image of the Year to hang on the back wall.

Note that the submission deadline for all Photojournalism nights is the Wednesday evening 2 days in advance of the night. Entries are to be submitted through ShutterScore.

All CPS members in good standing can and are encouraged to enter Club competitions. For rules, labels, tutorials and more, please visit the Competitions page of the website. All are welcome to view the event live or at a later time on our CPS YouTube channel but only members can submit images. Even if you do not enter, please plan to join us to see the beautiful images and hear the judge’s comments.
