Bio:
I spent my early life in Northern Ohio and I received a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. In 1987 I received a Master of Architecture from Washington University in Saint Louis, Mo.
As long as I can remember I have loved photography and nature. I would watch all the nature and wildlife shows I could find and dream of someday seeing them in real life. In 2006 my love of photography and nature came together to help sustain me through a very difficult time in my personal life.
In my work I seek to intertwine the beauty of nature with the philosophy of our shared existence. Each photograph serves as a reflection of my journey through diverse landscapes, capturing moments where light dances with form, revealing the intricate connection between all living things. My passion for the environment drives me to discover and document the ephemeral beauty surrounding us. Each outing into the wilderness is an opportunity for growth, both as an artist and as a human. I approach photography as an ethical practice, guided by principles that emphasize mindfulness and respect for nature. I strive to present each scene not merely as a visual representation but as a narrative that showcases the inherent value of life and the interconnectedness of all beings. Through this art, I aim to inspire others to pause and reflect, to recognize the beauty in their own surroundings, and to cherish the lessons hidden in each moment. My work embodies a philosophy rooted in curiosity and appreciation—a reminder that everything is beautiful if we choose to see it. Each photograph is a testament to my journey, inviting you to join me in an exploration of the landscapes that shape our collective experience.
Talk Description:
Ultimately, while it’s impossible to escape the shadow of the photographs taken before, I find joy in discovering a unique perspective. Hidden details, like the delicate interplay of ice and light or the subtle patterns etched into the rock by erosion. Finding these unique perspectives allows you to tell a story that is your own, and the opportunity to see and share the world in a way that’s personal and fresh.
